About the Non-Fiction Comics Festival
The Non-Fiction Comics Festival features panel discussions, workshops, and exhibiting cartoonists creating non-fiction and autobiographical work.
From science to politics, history to health care, cartooning has exploded as a legitimate medium for exploring non-fiction topics and the textures of lived experience.
With roots in the Vermont Folklife Center’s Non-Fiction Comics Mini-Fest (2017, 2018 & 2019) and their partnership with the University of Vermont, the Pulp Culture Comic Arts Festival and Symposium (2017 & 2018), NCFS celebrates the full scope of non-fiction cartooning with the Fletcher Free Library in Burlington, Vermont.

NFCF values and celebrates the integrity of artistic work and aims to center an artist’s rights to distribute, display, and sell their own art on their terms. As a consequence, work that has been either partially or wholly created with the use of generative AI is strictly forbidden at this event. NFCF recognizes the unethical use of AI training models scraping artists’ work without their consent and prohibits content displayed or sold that utilize said tools for all visual and written media. Using this event to sell NFTs is also prohibited. Exhibitors found violating this policy at NFCF will be asked to leave and will forfeit their exhibitor status and table fee. Repeated failure to comply will result in banishment from applying to future events.
If you have questions about these policies with regards to work you intend to display or sell at NFCF, please reach out to nfcf@vtfolklife.org.

The health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, guests, and volunteers is important to us. As a public building, the Fletcher Free Library cannot require or advise mask wearing without a State or City mandate. We do provide masks for those interested in wearing one and will encourage folks to wear one throughout the festival. It is a difficult period of transition in the pandemic, especially for older adults and those with compromised immune systems. While universal masking is not something we can require, wearing a good fitting mask is a good practice to reduce your risk. Our HVAC system has been upgraded to ensure good air exchange and all the smaller rooms will have air purifiers.
The staff at NFCF encourages you to get vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19 and wear a well-fitting mask of your choice during the event.
